Hurd Farm owner Steve Hurd never thought he’d be scrambling to find a facility to process more than 500 turkeys a week before Thanksgiving, but he was left with no choice after fast-moving flames swept through a barn on his farm early Tuesday morning, killing 75 live turkeys and destroying his equipment and approximately 100 turkeys that had already been processed for customers.

“At this point I’m just trying to figure out how to get these turkeys done. I’ve got 500 some odd families looking for their turkeys. I’ve got to get that straightened out and then we’ll go from there,” Hurd said as he looked over the charred remains of the collapsed building where blackened processed birds sat in a pile and one rescued turkey struggled to recover.
