Alberta municipalities collected a record of almost $70.7 million in revenue from renewable energy projects this year, but new projects are “at risk” of cancellation, said the Business Renewables Centre-Canada on Tuesday.

The BRC-Canada’s latest analysis found municipalities saw revenue from renewable energy projects jump 30 per cent this year, up from $54 million in 2024, and up 151 per cent, from $28 million, in 2023. In all, 26 rural municipalities — a third of them — now benefit from the revenue.
