CHICAGO (WLS) - A woman is in the hospital in critical condition after police say she was set on fire on a Chicago Transit Authority train.

Authorities say it happened Monday night around 9:30 p.m. near the Clark and Lake station on a CTA Blue Line train.

Police say the 26-year-old victim got into a verbal altercation with a man that turned physical. They say the man then poured a liquid on the woman and set her on fire.

The man left the scene after the train came to a stop, while the woman got off the train and fell to the ground.

The fire was extinguished before the officers arrived.

Police say the woman suffered severe burns.

Chicago authorities updated their investigation on Tuesday, saying a person of interest was in police custody.
