A large snowstorm isn’t in Connecticut’s close future, but it’s all a team of mechanics at the Connecticut Department of Transportation has been preparing for since October.
The state’s winter fleet contains roughly 640 trucks and 100 loaders. More than 80 mechanics spend weeks doing preventative maintenance on the vehicles to make sure they’re safe to drive and operate whenever those first flakes fall.

Mechanic Brandon Bushey at the Rocky Hill maintenance facility, the state’s largest, said he’s checking the hydraulics, flashing lights and changing the oil of dozens of trucks.
“We kind of get them ready the best we can for snow work basically, so that way the maintainers can take them and go,” Bushey said.
