A proposal to bring ranked choice voting to Juneau’s municipal elections has been put on hold indefinitely.
Juneau Assembly members met Monday with plans to take a vote on the measure — but that didn’t happen.
After hearing public testimony, much of it opposing the change, Assembly member Ella Adkison told the crowd she believes ranked choice voting could be a good fit for Juneau in the future — but not right now.
Adkison cited ongoing budget challenges as the reason to hold off.
"I think it is the right choice for Juneau. I just don't think this is the right time to implement this ordinance."
The Assembly then voted unanimously to table the ordinance indefinitely.
That means ranked choice voting will not appear on the ballot anytime soon in Juneau.
