OTTAWA COUNTY, Michigan — A man and his dog were stabbed during an alleged home invasion, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office reports. A suspect was arrested in connection with the case.

The situation unfolded Tuesday afternoon around 3:30 in the 11800 block of New Holland Street.

Police say a man broke into the Olive Township home and stabbed a 68-year-old man and his dog.

The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene. The dog was sent to an emergency vet, but later died, officials say.

Nearby schools were contacted and were told to shelter in place. That order has since been lifted.

The suspect fled before police arrived. The Sheriff's Office combed the area with a drone and K9 unit.
