TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) - A House committee voted along party lines on Tuesday to advance a bill that would allow wrongful death lawsuits for fetuses at any stage of pregnancy.
The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Sam Grecco , R-St. Augustine, would expand Florida’s wrongful death statute to include the death of a fetus “at any stage of development.”
“This is about parents in the worst moments of their life, who lose their unborn child because of someone else’s wrongfulness,” Grecco said.

The bill would put Florida in line with 43 other states that allow such lawsuits in some form. Grecco said the legislation would allow mothers who lose pregnancies due to abuse to sue their abusers.
