WASHINGTON — Rep. Pete Stauber voted on Tuesday in favor of a bill that instructs the U.S. Department of Justice to release documents on convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The Republican from Hermantown did not immediately respond to the News Tribune's request for comment after the vote.

The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the bill by a 427-1 margin just two days after President Donald Trump, a former friend of the late Epstein, ended his monthslong fight to stop the vote. On Sunday, Trump instead urged Republicans to vote for it, adding that “we have nothing to hide.”

Stauber did not sign a discharge position that allowed the House to vote on the bill without the approval of House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-Louisiana.
