Istepped out of my comfort zone last week.
There was no thrill-seeking, risk-taking adventure. I simply volunteered, and it was the most rewarding experience I'd had in years.
For three hours on Saturday morning, I joined 150 volunteers - fellow everyday people with everyday lives - at Mollymook beach to help the Disabled Surfers Association make a difference.
DSA was established in 1986 by disability advocate Gary Blaschke, after he'd suffered a life-altering motorcycle accident and was left unable to return to his beloved ocean pastime. There are nearly 20 active branches across Australia and New Zealand, and Saturday's event was the first to be held at Mollymook.
The organisation's mission is simple: provide equal opportunity to people with disabilities, no matter what it takes.
