PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- As prosecutors continue to lay the groundwork for a case against the man accused of killing Kada Scott , her family is left to pick up the pieces.

Tuesday would have been Scott's 24th birthday. Her family is marking the day by launching a foundation in her honor.

It happens as the family is still trying to make sense of a tragedy.

"In the middle of the night, thinking about her. Yeah, it's been tough," said Kevin Scott, Kada's father. "To be honest, I'm not good. My daughter's not here anymore."

Kevin Scott misses his daughter every day, but especially on what would have been her birthday: November 18.

"Coincidentally, she shares the same birthday as her mom, Kim, so definitely tough," said Scott.
