Jackie Klanchar stepped off United Airlines Flight 794 from San Francisco just after 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

Her red-eye flight landed at Pittsburgh International Airport about 10 minutes ahead of schedule. As she walked into the brand new terminal, many of her fellow passengers were awestruck — they had no idea they would be the first to arrive.

But for Ms. Klanchar, this was all according to plan. The Johnstown retiree flew to San Francisco on Monday just so that she could be among the first to experience the new terminal.

And she made sure to dress for the occasion. Ms. Klanchar, who wore a black blazer with gold buttons over a black collared dress, brought along a red purse and black rolling bag just in case she got stuck anywhere on her journey from Johnstown, to Chicago, to San Francis
