In the Strip District, one of the last vestiges of the neighborhood’s industrial past is set to become a massive apartment complex and grocery store.
The Pittsburgh Planning Commission on Tuesday unanimously approved plans to turn the Consumer Fresh Produce warehouse on the corner of 21st and Railroad streets into two residential buildings with nearly 500 apartments and retail space.
The complex emerges amid a residential building boom in the Strip. Nearly 2,000 new units are in the pipeline.
New York-based developer Midwood Investment and Development’s plans for the project include a mix of townhomes, studio, and one and two-bedroom units all priced at market rate.
