NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk Sheriff's Office is once again lending a helping hand ahead of the holiday season.
Deputies delivered 100 turkeys, 45 turkey breasts, and a variety of side dishes and drinks to local residents, churches, and nonprofits on Tuesday. Sheriff Joe Baron said it helps build connections with the people they serve.
“When we get those things out, we're greeted with smiles and sometimes hugs; those are all positive interactions we have with the community that really help us develop trust,” Baron said.
The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office says serving the community is one way it furthers its mission of making a positive difference in the city. Deputies have been donating and delivering turkeys for more than 12 years now.
