LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - An $18.5 million dredging project is happening along the Calcasieu River Ship Channel.
At Pujo Street Cafe, the CFO, Matthew Devall, Muddy Water Dredging, shares how they are currently working along the Calcasieu River Ship Channel
“If you shrink from 43 feet to 30 feet, those ships can’t come in; they have to be lighter and bring less product. Fewer products lead to fewer businesses, which, in turn, lead to fewer jobs. It has a trickle effect,” Devall said.
The team is operating the M/V Veneta Marie, a modern and highly efficient dredge designed to maintain the waterway at the required depth for heavy ship traffic.
Devall explains how the product will have a positive impact on the environment.
“Let’s say a dredge that was old and has old engines emits less
