Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says she’s currently in the midst of negotiations with the federal government on a memorandum of understanding.

Speaking at the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) Fall 2025 convention on Tuesday, Smith said she wants the MOU to include the removal or overhaul of what she’s dubbed the “nine bad laws” and an agreement to build a bitumen pipeline.

“We’re working on getting pipelines in all directions, north, south, east and west, with economic corridors built to the northeast coast, Hudson Bay and to Ontario. We know that the world needs more Alberta energy, not less. That’s the reason why we’re doing this,” Smith said.
