BREWER, Maine — Outside the Hannaford in Brewer, turkeys were dropped off one after another Tuesday morning as volunteers worked to make this year’s Thanksgiving a little brighter for families across the region.

“It’s just really cool to be out here and know that we’re doing our part and actively trying to help get families food on the table,” volunteer Justin McGregor said.

McGregor is one of dozens assisting with this year’s Free the Z Turkey Drive, organized by radio station Z107.3 in partnership with Penquis. All donated turkeys are delivered to food pantries throughout the region. It's support that Penquis says is badly needed this holiday season.
