MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - During International Fraud Awareness Week, the Wisconsin Department of Justice is highlighting ways to prevent scams that can cause significant harm, from financial losses to emotional damage.
Community organizations, partnering with the DOJ, are working to protect people from becoming victims of fraud, warning that people should always be cautious when taking out cash or sending money to others.
“There’s no age range that is immune from this,” said Lieutenant Matthew Wagner with the Cottage Grove Police Department. “We’ve had everything from young teenagers who are getting scammed online for sexting type issues all the way up to our vulnerable elderly.”
