Hungerford Elementary, Washington Shores Elementary, Ivey Lane Elementary, and other schools in Orange County have been targeted by nonprofit companies to become "Schools of Hope," but the district has denied these requests due to eligibility issues and lack of authorization.

"We denied them because they're not a Hope operator," said John Palmerini, general counsel to the Orange County School District, during a Tuesday afternoon workshop.

The Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) identified eight schools that might have met the eligibility requirements for a school of hope to co-locate on their campuses.
