Believed to be the first conviction of its kind in Massachusetts, a Dracut doctor has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter after illegally prescribing opioids that prosecutors say caused the death of an at-risk patient .
Richard Miron, 83, ranked as the largest provider of “high dose, short acting oxycodone prescriptions” among all MassHealth providers in the state between Sept. 2015 and Feb. 2016, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
At the time, he was a solo practitioner of internal medicine based out of Dracut.
After a series of guilty pleas on Nov. 17 in Middlesex County Superior Court, Miron was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail — all suspended for five years — and ordered not to practice medicine, state prosecutors announced Tuesday.
Miron was indicted
