DRACUT, Mass. —

For the first time in Massachusetts history, a doctor has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter in connection with opioid prescriptions.

Dr. Richard Miron, 83, of Dracut, pleaded guilty in Middlesex County Superior Court Monday to involuntary manslaughter, illegal prescribing of controlled substances, and Medicaid false claims.

According to Attorney General Andrea Campbell's office, Miron illegally prescribed oxycodone, morphine, fentanyl, methadone and hydromorphone to 12 patients from Dec. 2012 through Sept. 2017. One of those patients, Michelle Craib, died in Lowell on March 17, 2016.

She was found with two fentanyl patches attached to her abdomen, and several bottles of other opioids were found nearby. The summary of the attorney general's case indicates that
