ISLE OF PALMS — A recount is likely after just six votes separated two mayoral candidates for this barrier island community.
Unofficial election night reports show that incumbent Phillip Pounds narrowly led the race for mayor against challenger Scott Pierce in the Nov. 18 runoff election.
Pounds had expressed disappointment in the need for a second election . He hadn’t anticipated the runoff, he said, and in the two weeks between election days, he strategized more ways to connect with voters.
Those efforts may have paid off—barely.
With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Pounds led the polls with 50.2 percent of votes. Pierce trailed by less than one percent at 49.8 percent. You are seeing this message because your browser either doesn't support or doesn't allow iframes, an HTML el
