MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The Wisconsin State Senate voted on over 60 bills and joint resolutions on Tuesday, passing measures to redefine abortion, prohibit public funding for health care for people living in the country illegally and make it a felony to damage certain historical property.
All bills will have to also be passed by the Assembly and signed by the state’s Democratic Gov. Tony Evers before becoming law.
The abortion redefinition bill, SB 553 , sparked one the most significant partisan debates of Tuesday’s floor session, with Republicans explaining the measure as providing clarity for medical providers and Democrats calling it political interference in medical decisions.
