Philadelphia’s dining scene reached a historic milestone on Tuesday, Nov. 18, as the prestigious Michelin Guide officially included the City of Brotherly Love in its Northeast Dining Guide. For the first time ever, three Philadelphia restaurants earned coveted Michelin Stars, marking a defining moment for the city’s growing culinary reputation.

French restaurant Her Place Supper Club, located on Sansom Street and run by chefs Amanda Shulman and Alex Kemp, earned one of the stars. Shulman began her culinary career cooking for friends in her University of Pennsylvania apartment before transforming her supper club into a celebrated brick-and-mortar destination.

A second star went to Friday Saturday Sunday, the New American restaurant on South 21st Street led by chefs Chad and Hanna Williams. The spot has long been praised for its polished tasting menu and warm, intimate dining experience.

The third Michelin Star was awarded to Provenance, chef Nicholas Bazik’s French restaurant on South 2nd Street. The 22-seat tasting-menu spot earned recognition for its technique-driven dishes and thoughtful blend of global influences.

Michelin inspectors selected the restaurants using the guide’s traditional methodology, based on five universal criteria:

  • Quality products.
  • The harmony of flavors.
  • The mastery of cooking techniques.
  • The personality of the chef is reflected in the cuisine.
  • Consistency between each visit and throughout the menu.

In addition to the new stars, Michelin awarded a Green Star to vegan restaurant Pietramala on North 2nd Street, recognizing its commitment to sustainability.

Several Philadelphia eateries were also highlighted with Michelin Bib Gourmand distinctions, including:

  • Angelo’s on 9th Street.
  • Del Rossi’s on North 4th Street.
  • Dalessandro’s on Wendover Street.
  • Dizengoff on Sansom Street.
  • El Chingon.
  • Fiorella on Christian Street.
  • Famous 4th Street Delicatessen on South 4th Street.
  • Pizzeria Beddia on North Lee Street.
  • Royal Sushi & Izakaya on South 2nd Street.
  • Sally on Spruce Street.
