The Little Rock Board of Directors on Tuesday voted to authorize a roughly $5.7 million construction contract for the demolition and replacement of a damaged bridge protection structure on the Arkansas River.
The structure, known as a protection cell, is one of several located near the piers of the bridges that span the Arkansas River between Little Rock and North Little Rock. The large cylindrical objects are meant to prevent bridge supports from being struck by vessels.
The cell that needs to be replaced is located on the upstream side of the Clinton Presidential Park Bridge. A barge struck the cell in September 2021, damaging it.
