CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police is taking over an investigation after two Kirklin town marshals, a suspect and another adult were shot Tuesday night in rural Clinton County.

According to police, the incident started with a traffic stop in the area of SR 29 and County Road 400 North , about a mile north of Michigantown.

A Clinton County deputy conducted the stop with support from the Kirklin Town Marshal's Office. During the stop, the four adults and one child inside of the suspect car were outside of the vehicle when a passenger fired a gun toward the officers.

According to ISP, two Kirklin town marshals were shot when officers on scene returned fire, striking the suspect once and another adult. The suspect then fled on foot into a nearby field where he was taken into custod
