MOORHEAD — Minnesota State University Moorhead unveiled a new addition to its permanent art collection in the Memorial Union, honoring Native American roots, on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

Dennis Williams created the sculpture “Gauntlet.”

Williams, 52, and his daughter, Genevieve, also danced during Tuesday's ceremony.

The White Earth Nation member says the piece honors the “gauntlet” of life.

Williams faced family and educational adversity growing up and believes the sculpture brings that journey to life.

"It just pretty much is that gauntlet that you all students have to go through, because we're tested every day to be, you know, become professionals in what we're going to do and gain that knowledge," Williams said.
