BUCKEYE, Ariz. — One person is dead after a fiery single-vehicle crash involving a Tesla in Buckeye late Wednesday afternoon, fire officials said.
The crash happened just after 5 p.m. near Thomas Road and 303rd Avenue, next to the Tartesso neighborhood. Emergency crews remained at the scene for hours as they worked to contain flames fueled by the vehicle’s lithium-ion battery.
The crash happened off a dirt road adjacent to resident Alissa Bush's street.
“My husband just got home and we heard some noises. It's been raining outside, so we thought it was just thunder,” Bush said.
Bush said she didn’t realize what was happening until a frantic knock came at her door from someone trying to help.
