GREENSBORO, N.C. — Fear is spreading across North Carolina's immigrant communities.

Hector Rivera with Siembra, NC lives in Greensboro but is in Charlotte, where much Border Patrol activity has been reported.

"In these very impacted areas, we are telling people, 'stay home right now until things calm down,'" Rivera, Organizing Manager with Siembra, NC, said.

Border Patrol said its mission is to find people accused of crimes and remove public safety threats.

Rivera said his team has heard of detentions at gas stations and outside stores, fueling uncertainty.

"We believe that our people should be able to go to work, should be able to go to school, should be able to go to the hospital without having to worry about these risks," he said.
