Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is poised to resign on Wednesday, triggering the formal process for his swearing-in for an unprecedented 10th term after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) swept the state’s assembly polls.
Nitish Kumar will first be elected leader of the JD(U) legislature party after members convene at the state office at 11 am, senior party functionaries said.
Later, at 3:30 pm, MLAs from all five NDA partners will convene in the Central Hall of the Bihar Assembly to formally elect Nitish Kumar as leader of the alliance, officials said.
He will then head to Raj Bhavan to submit his resignation as Chief Minister and present letters of support to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, staking claim to form the new government. The outgoing Assembly will be then be dissolved.
