People in St. Tammany gathered for a meeting to learn more about the Mosquito Abatement District. This comes after the District Attorney's office reviewed the Mosquito District's budget and claimed some expenses were unnecessary. Advertisement
Director Kevin Caillouet says they recently lowered their millage from 3.1 to 2.27, and the money goes toward important programs.
"Half of what you're paying for are aerial spraying, ground mosquito treatment, the trucks you're also paying for surveillance and GIS information," said Caillouet.
The battle between the Mosquito District and the council is far from over. The district recently filed a lawsuit against the council asking a judge to stop them from looking into the agency's spending.
