LEXINGTON, S.C. — A packed public hearing Tuesday night brought heated debate over how much land developers should be allowed to clear at one time, as county leaders consider a proposed rewrite of standing rules.
The ordinance, known as 25-07, would change the current limit on residential land disturbance.
Today, developers may clear 20 acres, or up to 60 acres if they take additional steps.
County staff presented a new proposal that would allow 25 acres by default, up to 50 acres with county approval, and potentially 75 acres with oversight from both the stormwater board and County Council.
“The proposed text amendment looks at revised minimum acres of residential commercial disturbance to 25 without an expanded master plan or disturbance stabilization agreement,” Community Developmen
