GRAND FORKS — It took 6 minutes, 41 seconds for UND to score its first points against Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday night at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.

The Fighting Hawks were trailing 15-0 before that first basket fell.

By halftime, the deficit ballooned to 28 points.

UND outscored its opponents in the final two quarters, but failed to make a real dent in the Colonels' lead, suffering an 87-66 loss.

"Didn't play really well in the first half," UND head coach Dennis Hutter said. "Didn't think we came out and competed, didn't think we played with a level of a toughness, didn't think that we played the way I believe we could play, especially defensively, which is kind of what we've hung our hat on here for the first few games."
