YPSILANTI, MI — A nonprofit organization that operates an arts and crafts and writing center out of a house in Ypsilanti was recently told it is an “illegal arts and crafts studio.”
About a week ago, Dzanc House received a cease-and-desist letter from the city’s community services department telling them the center, located at 402 S. Huron St., must cease activity by Wednesday, Nov. 19, or face enforcement actions.
However, city officials will allow them to continue operating workshop, exhibits and other programs on the condition they apply for an amendment to the city’s zoning.
Dzanc House founder Steve Gillis is “very pleased and proud and surprised for the better,” he said.
