BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio -- City Council has placed a six-month moratorium, or temporary delay, on approving new pawn shops, discount stores, secondhand shops and thrift stores.
The idea is to give council -- which unanimously approved the moratorium Oct. 27 -- time to amend municipal code and zoning regulations in relation to such businesses.
Council President Robert Boldt told cleveland.com Tuesday (Nov. 18) that council wants to tighten its zoning code and ordinances to guard itself better against lawsuits whenever the city rejects plans by certain businesses.
Over the past few years, the city has been sued for rejecting plans by certain stores.
