KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Eric and Erin McLean were once the picture of young love. High school sweethearts, they married young. He was 21 and she was 19. A decade later were raising two boys in a modest home on Coker Avenue in North Knoxville.
But a 911 call from that home on March 10, 2007, revealed a secret relationship that would grip the community and end the life of an 18-year-old with a single gunshot.
“He wants to start a fight… because he’s one of my wife’s former students and he’s stalking her,” Eric McLean told dispatchers.
That former student was Sean Powell, who was found dead minutes later in his Mercedes outside the McLean home. Eric fled.
Police found Powell alone and dead in the driver’s seat. The next day, officers located Eric wandering along railroad tracks before arrestin
