A Queensland man charged over an alleged hit-and-run sent a voice recording saying he had "killed someone" after the incident, a court has heard.

Scarborough man Frank Moneger was denied bail when he appeared via video link in the Redcliffe Magistrates Court on Wednesday, charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and leaving the scene of an incident without obtaining help.

Police allege he struck and killed a 17-year-old girl — identified only as Olivia in a statement issued on behalf of her family — in Margate, north of Brisbane, on Monday night.

Police prosecutor Sheree Wild told the court Mr Moneger sent his girlfriend a voicemail message after the crash, saying he "just killed someone, she's dead… [and] it's really bad".
