A $300 million aviation and marine hub will be built on an island off the Kimberley coast after gaining final approvals from the West Australian environment minister.
The logistics hub will be built on Cockatoo Island, located in the Buccaneer Archipelago, 130 kilometres north of Derby.
It will be built by the privately owned Crestlink, formerly known as Kimberley Technology Solutions.
The hub is set to include a new airport and port to service the offshore oil and gas industry.
Conditions of approval
The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has outlined various conditions and procedures that Crestlink must follow to maintain project approval in a 24-page brief.
These include:
no mortality, injury or disturbance of significant marine fauna due to proposal-related vessel strike
