The Indian government is planning a significant change to enhance the security of Aadhaar cards. Under the new proposal, Aadhaar cards will only display the cardholder’s photo and a QR code, omitting the name, address, and Aadhaar number.
According to reports, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is considering this change to prevent misuse of personal information and discourage offline verification.
At an Aadhaar conference, UIDAI CEO Bhavesh Kumar announced that the authority is aiming to introduce this rule in December 2025. He emphasised that the new rule aims to curb offline Aadhaar verification by hotels and event organisers and speed up age verification while ensuring user privacy.
