A mother accused of murdering her four-year-old son and staging his death is yet to learn if her case will proceed to Queensland's Supreme Court after a magistrate reserved his decision.

Lawyers for Tara Maree Richardson argued charges of murder and interfering with a corpse should be thrown out when she appeared for a committal hearing in the Mackay Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The naked body of four-year-old Tarrin-Macen O'Sullivan was found in a backyard pool at a home at Munbura, south of Mackay, on the afternoon of Sunday, August 29, 2021.

Ms Richardson, Tarrin's mother, was arrested more than two years later, in December 2023, and charged with murder in a domestic violence setting and interfering with a corpse.
