The elephant nicknamed ‘Radhakrishnan’, which was translocated from the Nilgiris district to the Kalakkad-Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve (KMTR) in Tirunelveli district a fortnight ago, was found dead in the Upper Gothaiyar area of the reserve on Tuesday (November 18, 2025).

The elephant was captured in Ayyankolli in the Nilgiris on September 23 after the tusker was blamed for 12 human deaths that occurred over a period of more than 10 years, with the recent incident being the death of K. Mani, a 62-year-old retired tea estate worker who was killed after allegedly being attacked by the elephant on August 11.

It was subsequently translocated to the KMTR where it was released in the Upper Gothaiyar area, well beyond the Manjolai tea garden in the Western Ghats, with a radio collar.
