The Supreme Court on Wednesday (November 19, 2025) said it cannot pass “blanket orders” protecting doctors involved in protests in the aftermath of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
A Bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and Satish Chandra Sharma said any order passed would amount to interference with the authority of the police.
Observing that the matter cannot be heard “piecemeal”, the Supreme Court said it was inclined to transfer the matter to the Calcutta High Court.
