Washington: The widow of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was murdered in 2018 by Saudi agents, demanded Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman personally apologise after he said at the White House that his killing inside a consulate was a mistake.

"The Crown Prince said he was sorry so he should meet me, apologise and compensate me for the murder of my husband," Hanan Elatr Khashoggi wrote on X.

The killing also chilled relations with Washington, as US intelligence suggested that Prince Mohammed approved the operation inside the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul, an allegation which Saudi authorities deny.

Hanan Elatr Khashoggi told CNN that "it's very painful for me" to see Prince Mohammed visit Washington, where he will be received as though he were a head of state, not a de facto ruler.
