ATLANTA — The 2026 FIFA World Cup is drawing ever closer, with numerous teams around the world qualifying this week as the field rounds out -- one such qualification reverberating all the way to Atlanta.
Curaçao, an island nation near Venezuela that's officially a constituent of the Netherlands, punched their ticket to the World Cup on Tuesday night -- with a population just north of 150,000, becoming the smallest country ever to reach the World Cup.
They did it with a 0-0 draw against Jamaica, holding that country off with 12 points (three wins, three draws) to 11 points (three wins, two draws, one loss) in the last of their six-match CONCACAF (the confederation comprising of North and Central America and the Caribbean) qualifying group.
