New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has become only the second New Zealander and the first in 46 years to reach the top of the ICC men’s ODI rankings. With a career-best rating of 782, he joined the exclusive company of Glenn Turner, who held the top spot in the rankings in 1979.

He achieved the standings after scoring a match-winning 119 (118) against the West Indies in Christchurch at the Hagley Oval at home. Unfortunately, he also picked up a groin injury in the match, which ruled him out of the rest of the series.
