The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday granted bail to former West Bengal Board of Secondary Education president Kalyanmoy Ganguly in a school jobs scam case being probed by the CBI.

Justice Tirthankar Ghosh passed the order after hearing submissions from Ganguly’s lawyers and the Central Bureau of Investigation. Ganguly has been in custody for over three years.

His counsel urged the court to grant bail on the ground of prolonged detention and pointed out that every other accused in the case has already secured bail from various courts. This includes former state education minister Partha Chatterjee, who is also an accused in the CBI case concerning alleged irregularities in the recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff in government and government-aided schools.
