AMES, Iowa —
Sixteen Iowa State seniors will be honored Saturday when the Cyclones host Kansas on Senior Day. One of them, punter Tyler Perkins, will go down in the record books.
Most fans don't talk about their punter a lot, but Perkins has been stellar for ISU. His 43.5-yard average is the best in school history. He is also one of 10 semifinalists for the Ray Guy Award, given to the nation's best punter.
"That's pretty crazy," Perkins said. "10-year-old me would have never believed that and called you crazy. It went fast. Where does time go? It is hard to believe."
Coach Matt Campbell vividly remembers recruiting Perkins out of Ohio.
