Roger Federer has continously credited one of his childhood coaches for influencing his career.
Roger Federer cemented himself as one of tennis’ great champions during his glittering career, winning 20 Grand Slam trophies, 103 titles overall, and spending 310 weeks at No. 1 in the world. And perhaps the most formative coach of his career was the late Peter Carter, who met Federer when the Swiss star was just nine years old.
The 20-time Major winner has always credited Carter for influencing his game and technique. But the Australian tennis coach died in a car accident aged just 37 in 2002, while he was honeymooning in South Africa. At the time, Federer was competing at the Canadian Open, and was a year away from winning his maiden Grand Slam title at Wimbledon .
