New Jersey’s Asian workers ranked among the highest in the nation for public transit use, according to Census figures.
An estimated 98,754 Asian employees, or about 21.3%, used some form of public transportation to get to work in New Jersey in 2024, compared with 9% of their counterparts who drove to work alone, the data showed.
Nationally, New Jersey’s Asian workers ranked 5th among their peers in using buses, trains and trams to get to work. Hawaii, North Dakota, California and Washington saw the highest use of public transit by Asian workers. Wyoming, South Dakota and Maine had the lowest transit use by Asian workers.
An estimated 464,486 of New Jersey’s 4,772,330 workers took public transit to work.
They were among an estimated 295,428, or about 63.6%, of workers of color state
