Assam fought determinedly all day with the bat to force a draw as hosts Bengal secured three points thanks to a first-innings lead in their Elite Group C Ranji Trophy match on Wednesday.

Resuming at 98 for three, trailing by 144 runs in the second innings, Assam ended at 282 for nine. Half-centuries from skipper Sumit Ghadigaonkar (67 off 222 balls), Denish Das (73 off 133 balls), and Sibsankar Roy (52 off 144 balls) played a crucial role.

Das and Ghadigaonkar offered stiff resistance after Assam had slipped to 8/3 on the third evening, adding 111 runs from 266 balls for the fourth wicket.

Following Das’s dismissal by Ishan Porel, Ghadigaonkar and Roy put on 58 runs from 143 balls for the fifth wicket. Roy further contributed by forming two more key partnerships
