WA teens are reminded to practise safe sex as they attend Leavers events this week to ensure a healthy celebration of the end of school.

The Department of Health has partnered with the WA Aids Council to give out condoms at Leavers, amid warnings young people continue to bear the greatest burden of sexually transmissible infections in the State.

WA sexual health and blood-borne virus program manager Lisa Bastian encouraged leavers to be prepared and pack condoms and water-based lubricants.

“Condoms are the most effective protection against STIs, so if you have unprotected sex, it’s vital you see a doctor or clinic for testing,” she said.

“Many STIs don’t show symptoms but are often easily treated when caught early — so don’t delay testing.”
